GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 714696
Contacts list / address book
Last modified: 2018-10-07 03:45:08 UTC
---- Reported by jim@yorba.org 2013-01-30 10:56:00 -0800 ---- Original Redmine bug id: 6283 Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/6283 Searchable id: yorba-bug-6283 Original author: Jim Nelson Original description: Geary currently harvests email addresses and creates an internal contacts list. This contacts list is only available in the UI via autocomplete in the composer window. Geary should have a window to search, edit, add, and remove email addresses, as well as allow multiple email addresses to be selected for composing a message. Note that this should interface with our Folks integration plans. +1 Autocompletion could be a pain is you receive/send a lot of emails (i.e. from mailing lists) because Geary will offer you a lot of different choices when writing emails. And I don't want to have someone I wrote once a email (and will never again) be added to my contact list. So we should definitively be able to manage a contact list in Geary.
There was a suggestion on the mailing list <https://mail.gnome.org/archives/geary-list/2016-September/msg00057.html> that people should be able to browse through contacts in the way as they can browse through mailboxes, and select and view conversations by contact, which is an interesting idea. It might also provide a means addressing this bug, instead of using a more traditional address book.
It would be nice if several addresses furthermore could be assigned to mailing lists. Would be nice if this feature could provide an option for selecting CC or BCC for each address separately. So I can create mailing lists e.g. for clubs (all in BCC), friends (all in CC) and work (some CC, some BCC). Should I create a new feature request, or can this stay here?
Sounds like a good feature to have, but should be treated as a separate enhancement, yep. Maybe have a search to see if it hasn't already been reported and if not feel free to add it. Ta!
Closing this as WONTFIX. Between integrating with the desktop addressbook (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/issues/133) and implementing contact popovers (https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/issues/134), having a separate address book is a duplication of effort.
