This affects me too! It's quite annoying and it can't be that hard to fix. The sidebar width doesn't even need to be configurable, it just needs to not have a minimum. It's so wide that I need to use the program in full-screen to be able to read mail at a reasonable width and there isn't even text in the space it's taking up. The mail pane is resizeable to 0, why can't the "sidebar" be too?

If the sidebar can be reduced to zero width, someone could easily think that it has disappeared. Likewise, below a certain width, the sidebar becomes useless. While I agree that the minimum width should be reduced, some minimum width is desirable.

Please fix. Seems like it would be quick. The message (middle) pane already has a smaller minimum width than the folder pane.

I've pushed a suboptimal fix, in the sense that the sidebar can be collapsed so narrowly all labels are ellipsized. However, this will at least work around the problem to make Geary more usable. Also, this fixes bug #713476. I discovered that setting width_chars (even w/ ellipsize mode set) will make that bug return, so I opted to go this way for now.
