GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 713612
Display unread conversation count, not unread message count
Last modified: 2021-07-05 13:26:12 UTC
---- Reported by jim@yorba.org 2013-07-08 15:38:00 -0700 ---- Original Redmine bug id: 7212 Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/7212 Searchable id: yorba-bug-7212 Original author: Jim Nelson Original description: Since Geary focuses so much on conversations instead of messages, it seems appropriate to display unread conversation counts in the folder list rather than unread messages. This would be a bit of a trick, since we currently use values reported by IMAP that are easy to fetch. In order to make this work, we might have to have more information about each message available (or possibly conversation tables in the database). --- Bug imported by chaz@yorba.org 2013-11-21 20:21 UTC --- This bug was previously known as _bug_ 7212 at http://redmine.yorba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7212 Unknown version " in product geary. Setting version to "!unspecified". Unknown milestone "unknown in product geary. Setting to default milestone for this product, "---". Setting qa contact to the default for this product. This bug either had no qa contact or an invalid one. Resolution set on an open status. Dropping resolution
I support this idea and I would extend it to read conversations in inbox and labels: I'd like them to show the number of conversations, not the number of messages. e.g. if I'm working on cleaning my inbox, I work per conversation and the number of conversations give me a concrete idea of the amount of work requested. This is also the default in Gmail.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
