---- Reported by geary-maint@gnome.bugs 2012-07-09 17:42:00 -0700 ----

Original Redmine bug id: 5525
Original URL: http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/5525
Searchable id: yorba-bug-5525
Original author: Matthew Pirocchi
Original description:

It's common practice to use the following shortcuts:

  * `Ctrl + V`: Paste (with formatting)
  * `Ctrl + Shift + V`: Paste without formatting

Chrome and Firefox, to name a few, use these shortcuts.

However, Geary uses the following shortcuts:

  * `Ctrl + V`: Paste without formatting
  * `Ctrl + Shift + V`: Paste with formatting

This is inconsistent with what most users will expect, and should be reversed.

This was by design; this is a rare instance where we think many other apps*
get it wrong and decided to go our own way.

The problem with ctrl-V for paste with formatting is that most of the it's a
violation of expectation. When you paste text from a web page, for example,
how often do you want the formatting to go along with it? For those of us we
polled at Yorba, the answer was "never."

Since the primary use case is to paste without formatting, we felt it should
be the default. An extra key press is necessary for the less common use-case
of pasting formatting with the text.

(*Apple was nice enough to make this configurable systemwide on OS X.)

While I also almost never want to paste with formatting, I'm not convinced
that breaking established convention is worth it in this case. But if the
issue was already discussed and decided, that's ok.

Yep - this was a conscious design decision. We'll keep this as it is.
