GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 711762
The GTK2 and GTK3 versions of gtk-mac-integration can’t be simultaneously installed
Last modified: 2014-01-24 15:53:18 UTC
Both versions install with the same library name so only one can exist at a time.

So what? It's for use in an all-in-one application bundle.
Gtk2 and Gtk3 are parallel installable, so is gimp2 and gimp3, people don't develop inside application bundles, they develop in normal unix prefixes. Making incompatible library versions parallel installable is simply good style.
