GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 711201
Setting thumbnail only for files larger than max filesize not working
Last modified: 2017-07-17 09:09:09 UTC
The files in this picture are 5-6 MB each, and as you can see, Nautilus is set not to show thumbs for files larger than 500 KB :) But there you have all the thumbnails. I was asked here https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=711044 to add a new bug report for this specific problem, but I think it should be treated connected with the other bug as they should be fixed in the same time, they are depending on each other.

4 years has passed, it is 2017 now, I use Nautilus 3.20.4, and this bug is still here. Honestly, guys, I am impressed. I haven't used content previews on Linux since half a decade because of this bug.

I cannot tell from the description if Nautilus is generating thumbnails for new files over the size limit.
It is a bug. I deleted every tumbnails folder I found, then I opened a folder containing media files, and Nautilus started to re-generate thumbnails for files larger than the set limit. Thumbnailing only the small files works fine for PNG and JPG files, but PDFs and movies, and even WAV files are getting previewed regardless of the file size.
Maybe the user has to actively click on the drop-down menu which contains the filesize limits of previews for it to take effect. Or is there a built-in, default filesize limit for thumbnailing?

Heck, three, even.
Hey, it works :) I tested it with the latest Ubuntu Gnome and it works like supposed. I will reinstall my computer now. Thanks guys!
