Description Sylvhem 2013-10-19 19:59:21 UTC
The GIMP 2.8.6 for Linux saves the data and configuration of the user inside ~/.mozilla/.gimp-2.8.
I think the GIMP should follow the proposal of freedesktop.org (http://standards.freedesktop.org/basedir-spec/basedir-spec-latest.html) and store personal configuration in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME (default to ~/.config) and personal data in $XDG_DATA_HOME (default to ~/.local/share). Concretely, according to this specification, the data of the user should be in ~/.local/share/gimp-X.Y and its configuration in ~/.config/gimp-X.Y.
This way has some advantages. First, it avoids that $HOME are cluttered by lots of configuration files and directories. Moreover, group together all configuration and data files, permits to the user to copy its complete configuration easily.

GIMP doesn't put anything into ~/.mozilla, also, this bug is a duplicate,
and it's fixed in master.
