GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 710341
Software should indicate download and installed size of chosen package plus all dependencies
Last modified: 2015-05-01 21:28:48 UTC
Testing something else in Software, I more or less randomly picked Shutter to install. It's described as a screenshot app, which doesn't sound particularly heavy. Yet installing it requires 100+ dependencies, over 100MB in size. The Software interface gives no indication of this. It probably doesn't need to list out the actual package dependencies explicitly, but it should total their size both over-the-wire and installed, and provide that information. It's going to be very important to some users.
We're providing that in 3.12 -- there's a mockup in http://jimmac.musichall.cz/stuff/gnome3/Software/app.html which master looks a lot like.
I think we should consider this done in 3.11.1
This issue seems to be still present in 3.16.1.1. I encountered it on Fedora 22 x86_64 (XWayland session, bare metal). gnome-software doesn't list dependencies and the size displayed doesn't count these additional packages.
Can you file it as a new bug? it's probably a bit clearer than re-opening this one. Thanks! (or check if there's one open specifically for dependency size.)
(In reply to Giulio (juliuxpigface) from comment #3) > gnome-software doesn't list dependencies Apps aren't supposed to depend on other apps, and we aren't going to expose packages in the UI. > and the size displayed doesn't > count these additional packages. This is bug #734645, so no need to file a new bug.
