Description Alexander 2013-10-16 08:39:56 UTC
When groups used in contact list its can't be collapsed or expanded.

When I click on little triangle near the group name it gets rotated but nothing else changes.

Steps to reproduce:
1. enable org.gnome.empathy.ui.show-groups key in dconf. Contact list now filled with groups. Some of them are collapsed and some are expanded.
2. Click on a little triangle near the collapsed group.
3. After mouse moves triangle gets rotated as if group was expanded. But group content remains hidden.
4. Enter and clear some search to force contact list redraw. Group content is now displayed.

I can confirm this is also true for me.

I have found another interesting work around that is quite the pain to do with many groups but it does work.

Click the arrow on every group, make it show collapsed. The contacts will still show expanded on all, but the arrow should be collapsed (pointing at group name).

Now in status drop down select "Offline" wait for contacts to disappear, then select "Online" and when contacts appear, the groups are now collapsed!

It takes the same process to open a group. To make matters worse, when you close empathy's main contact window and reopen, the contact list is all expanded again and all arrows are expanded. I have to go through the WHOLE process again to collapse my less used groups. For me this is rough because I use empathy at work for Enterprise jabber host with groups for every dept/team. Something like 20-30 groups...

Hi,

I can confirm the same issue.
The only work around that actually works, is the one David Dreggors points out.

Best Regards

Also, rather than going offline, use the same steps to collapse/expand as needed but do a search and then clear the search rather than going offline/online. This is just as cumbersome but does not make you go offline to show the change. ;-)

Can't this be confirmed yet? There seems to be a few people here and in other bug reports that are seeing this issue. Fedora also has bug reports on this at bugzilla.redhat.com... please look into this rather annoying bug.

Thanks
