GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 707944
Unable to choose HDMI/DP sound output
Last modified: 2021-06-09 16:11:34 UTC
Created attachment 254747 [details] Sound settings dialog I'm not able to choose HDMI output anymore since you removed Hardware profile tab from Sound Settings in GNOME 3.6 and the issue is still present in GNOME 3.8. Profile lists "Analog Stereo Outuput" only and it's missing "Digital Stereo (HDMI) Output" under Output tab. The only workaround is to use pavucontrol. I'm currently using Sabayon 13.08 with kernel 3.10.9 and Gnome 3.8.4 on a M-6804m Gateway laptop. My sound card is: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller [8086:284b] (rev 03) Let me know if you need more information. Regards, Charles
Just a small correction, Gnome is actually v3.8.3. Also I'm using PulseAudio 4.0.
Can you also attach "pacmd ls" output for reference? I likely won't be able to look at this but it's the kind of info that could be useful for David to see why the device is not showing up.

The same problem is described in this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/961286
From the launchpad, it should have been fixed with newer kernels. Charles, is the problem fixed for you now?
No, it's not fixed at all. I still depend upon pavucontrol to switch profile for my soundcard. I'm currently on Manjaro (Arch based) distro, kernel 3.19.2 and GNOME 3.14.2, same laptop model.
Then it wasn't the same problem.
I tested Ubuntu 14.10, it didn't work either. It's the same problem, only not fixed for my hardware. Let me know if you need more info.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new bug report at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
