GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 706545
Please remove generated images from translators sight
Last modified: 2013-08-22 20:27:19 UTC
At GUADEC, it was discussed that it is now possible to mark images as non-translatable, thus removing them from the translators radar that looks like this: https://l10n.gnome.org/module/gnome-getting-started-docs/gnome-help/master/hu/images/ This is good because we don't get the idea that we need to localize some images that we are not supposed to. Now the images and videos on the link above are all generated during build and thus qualify as something worth hiding from translators eyes: please mark them as non-translatable.

Petr and Kat showed me that they used the its:translate="no" attribute for various things to not show up for translation, like e-mail addresses or abbreviations and asked if it should be used for images. I said: sure :). Documentation is here: http://www.w3.org/TR/its/#trans-datacat Many examples are in the gnome-user-docs/sysadmin guide.
Created attachment 252710 [details] [review] First try to mark svg and webm files not translatable It seems to work for me, the generated pot file is exactly 22 strings shorter.

Looking at the first instance, you do it right. But these SVGs have text in them, which means that they should be translated, no?
(In reply to comment #4) > > But these SVGs have text in them, which means that they should be translated, > no? Yes they should and they are. But not because they are marked as translatable in the .page files, but because they are listed in the Makefile.am in the HELP_FILES variable. Damned-lies and make use this as the list of translatable files.
Review of attachment 252710 [details] [review]: Looks like the patch correctly marks the subtitles for webm files for translation, so feel free to commit & push it to master. Thanks.
