Apparently it's necessary to use GUPnP as a base for implementing http://www.w3.org/TR/discovery-api/

Right, this API allows sending to web applications discovered services as JavaScript objects. One field (the config one) contains the configuration information of the service.

The specification is not fully stable yet, so this requirement may evolve.
Given that the change is small, it seems worth it though.
