GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 705787
Selection line disappearing
Last modified: 2013-10-30 21:23:22 UTC
After some use, but quite often, the dotted line that shows a selection becomes invisible, even while doing a selection. The selection is still there and it is still possible to operate on it (e.g., copy & paste), just it is not possible to see it. The only way to solve the problem and to restart viewing the selection line is to restart GIMP.

Thank you for reporting this. Is this the same like bug #678055? Your answer within 6 weeks is appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Thanks for the answer and sorry for the multiple reports: Bugzilla hanged multiple times while trying to submit the bug! It looks like the bug that I reported is the same as #678055. I use a Wacom Bamboo too. Unfortunately, though, I cannot recognize any specific action that triggers the bug (certainly not the ones described in the aforementioned bug), it just happens from time to time. Actually, my impression was that the bug was fixed in 2.8.4 and it reappeared in 2.8.6 since I haven't experienced it in the last weeks until upgrading to 2.8.6. Most of the times I need to restart GIMP to have the selection visible again; just reopening the image does not help.
Thank you for your quick answer. As it seems, they're not duplicates of each other. However I mark them as related bugs as reminder. If the error occurs again for you and you can reproduce it by intention, please describe here what you did. Thank you in advance.
We have no idea why this happens at all (or rather, what triggers it, the actual disappearance is a side-effect of an intentional action). So I wouldn't track this as a different bug.
OK, and lately, not only I could not reproduce the bug, it also looks to be disappeared...
As mentioned in comment 4, this is most likely a duplicate of bug 678055. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 678055 ***
