GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 705226
No easy way to hibernate my system
Last modified: 2013-08-19 08:42:06 UTC
Hello I have this problem: 1. I want to restart my system to boot in Windows 2. But I would prefer to hibernate instead of reboot to recover my previous status when returning. -> The problem is that I can only "Suspend" (after pressing Alt key) and, from a suspended state, I cannot reboot on other system. Maybe "Suspend" should behave similar to "Poweroff" option, that opens a dialog to let us choose between shutdown or reboot Thanks
Install https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/5/alternative-status-menu/ ?
My idea was to not need to install an unofficial extension... but thanks for the tip :)
Ah, it looks official, nice!
Current behavior is to switch between "Poweroff" and "Suspend" pressing "Alt", why not change "Alt" key behavior to simply switch from main menu to alternative status one?
Hey Pacho. We try not to expose hibernate, since it is Yet Another Shutdown Option, and the difference between suspend and hibernate often isn't apparent to many people. However, we are considering a "boot into other OS" option. In this case we might well want to automatically hiberate; we'll bear your suggestion in mind when looking at this. Thanks for the report!
OK, thanks a lot for your attention :), will live with the extension for now ;)
