It might be nice to be able to autocomplete drive URLs in the connect to server dialog. We do something similar to this in the add printer dialog in GNOME. The way it could work is if I type in "192.168.1.200" into the location entry it could drop down a menu of choices that represent all the available mountable points on that server.

It raises the question of why we couldn't populate network:/// with those locations in the first place but might still be useful.

I'm not sure how we can do the probing exactly. Port scanning?

I wasn't sure exactly what was being suggested here, so Jon produced this nice mockup for me. Seems like a great addition to me.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org.
As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org
which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately
quite limited so not every ticket can get handled).

If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent
and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow
  https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines
and create a new ticket at
  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/

Thank you for your understanding and your help.
