The elliptical effect makes the overview very dark and uncomfortable and also detracts a little from the clean feel of Gnome as present in earlier Shell versions.

Hi there. I think that the rendering of the vignette (the elliptical effect) is probably more of an issue here. Marking this as a duplicate of our existing bug for that - we can reassess once it is fixed.
