Description Milan Crha 2013-07-08 11:24:14 UTC
Moving part of a downstream bug report:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=981712

The UI is frozen, when evolution checks archive content to restore, which can take several minutes with large backups (1GB+), same as there is not much feedback on progress, to know that it does anything. I'm not sure how much feedback can be received from a tar command, but at least the freeze is not good.

It can also take several hours for even larger backups. Like in my case.
Comment 2 Matthew Barnes 2013-07-08 14:16:35 UTC
I have to wonder if it's really worth keeping this module around.

It was originally written to assist with pulling account data out of GConf, but that problem is solved. Nowadays it's basically just spawning a long-running "tar" command, which users can do easily enough themselves.
Comment 3 Milan Crha 2013-07-08 16:33:56 UTC
It's nice to have some internal tool for this, rather than teach each user how to work with tar and so on. I'd prefer some library with provided feedback, though, rather than depend on a command line tools.

Cover File->Restore Evolution settings is easy, but the same for the first run wizard is not, there is still frozen UI.
