GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 702980
Show an error when launching a command fails?
Last modified: 2021-06-09 16:29:59 UTC
User can notice that adding custom shortcuts to keyboard will not work in some situations. Steps : 1. Boot 2. Go to settings - keyboard 3. Go to Shortcuts tab - Custom shortcuts (bottom) 4. Click the "+" and add random name and command "terminal" 5. Press to define key combinations (right side) and select "Alt+t" for example 6. Close settings and try the new shortcut, observe it does not work Expected outcome Shortcut works Actual outcome Shortcut does not work
Which exact version of gnome-control-center is this about?
gnome-control-center 3.8.3
"terminal" isn't a valid command, and we don't show errors in the UI when the command fails. Replacing "terminal" with a valid command (such as "gnome-terminal") launches it just fine. Adding ui-review keyword to know whether we should pop up an error dialogue.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new bug report at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
