GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 702257
Readability is lost when renaming
Last modified: 2013-11-17 13:37:29 UTC
Created attachment 246799 [details] Screenshot of a directory created without the directory name text being selected I was creating a new folder on my desktop and found that if the text is not selected while renaming the folder, it's not clearly visible against the background for purposes of reading/typing- the name of the directory. http://i.imgur.com/YWKC6d5.png >> text selected. http://i.imgur.com/IfCr2cV.png >> text not selected.
Maybe it the directory name-text could use a light background when someone is renaming it?
I agree with comment 1. Transparent background on the rename entry field is, in my opinion, wrong, becuase: - it doesn't look like a regular text entry; - transparent background is for non-selected items. Selected items have opaque background (well, except when renaming, that's why it feels wrong).

Reported on Ubuntu has well: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1236601 It seems to confuse/annoy users
According to a commit description [1], this problem has been fixed in git, including the 3.10 branch (although yet to be included in a release). [1] https://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=c3b2b0a0223aa18cae06259304842e4af5ac1529
