GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 70210
favicons don't work for SSL sites
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
The site https://galeon-test.flowerday.cx/ has a favicon but it does not show. The (non-secure) version at http://galeon-test.flowerday.cx/ works perfectly. Looking at straces of my web server, it appears that no request is made to the site for the favicon (disk + memory cache empty).
Jorn ... have fun ;)
marking as 1.2, please tell if you disagree
Pff. The favicon code uses a lot of gnome-vfs magic to get filenames and stuff. Rewriting this in mozilla, looking at phil's mozilla_uri_has_parent code, would take about 100 times as much code. I'd prefer to wait for vfs to accept SSL uris.
why gnome-vfs doesnt accept ssl now ? We should verify if recent versions does and post a bug report if they doesnt. Philip, what do you think ? Should we use mozilla ?
Recompile gnome-vfs with SSL support, and voila - it works. Doing this breaks licensing, as OpenSSL is incompatible with the LGPL, which is why you won't get gnome-vfs linked against OpenSSL by default in most distros.
wont fix for stable branch. It works on head.
