GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 701887
Don't launch ibus-setup-<engine> through ibus-setup-<engine>.desktop
Last modified: 2021-06-09 16:08:20 UTC
https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-control-center/tree/panels/region/cc-region-panel.c#n739 https://github.com/ibus/ibus/blob/master/setup/main.py#L309 See the difference? I don't see the reason why should you things differently. You just made another useless migration item for various engines. If you have good reasons, can you discuss with IBus upstream publicly and keep ibus-setup in sync with g-c-c?
Rui, are the expectations we have for engine metadata described somewhere ?
We do have this https://live.gnome.org/AllanDay/IMEGuidelines but it's, in practice, hidden I admit. I think only 2 or 3 engine developers know about it. I'll try to reach a wider audience and discuss this for future releases. Launching through a .desktop file gives us a few niceties like startup notification but it's not clear if we really want that anyway since we're trying to make these setup programs look like modal dialogs to the Settings window. So, I agree that we can do better here.
OK, sounds reasonable. Next time you decided on something different from origin IBus, please drop a message to ibus-devel. I'm willing to spread the news for you if necessary.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new bug report at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-control-center/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
