Description veigajose 2013-05-24 20:58:56 UTC
I have recently installed the GnuCash version 2.4.13 and I have a particular annoying trouble even not really severe.

After duplicating a transaction or making a search (for example), the pop-up window of duplicate (or search) action apparently disappears (as it has to do).

But if I open the list of opened windows in X11 menus, I found all duplicate (or search or whatever) pop-up windows there. They don't really close, they have hidden behind register or report windows.

If I select one of these previously open pop-up windows, the focus goes to it but none action can be done on it. Nor closing nor pressing ok nor cancelling nor minimizing, nothing. These windows stay there during the rest of the session.

Eventually I have downgraded to version 2.4.12 because it is very annoying to have all these windows in the X11 menu.

Thanks.

Thank you for your report.

I don't see this on linux. I have also looked through the changes between 2.4.12 and 2.4.13 in the gnucash source code, but can't find anything that might have caused this.

So I assume the issue is somewhere in the dependency libraries that get shipped on OS X. Reassigning to that component.

We don't support X11 on OS X. Perhaps you can get some help from the MacPorts or Fink maintainer.

Thanks to Geert Janssens and John Ralls. Nevertheless, I feel both answers unsatisfactory.

First, to John Ralls, this is not an issue of X11 on Mac OS X nor MacPorts nor Fink. I am using the distribution prepared by GnuCash for Mac OS X. I think you should support your own binaries.

Second, to Geert Jansses, as you said the issue probably is in a Mac OS X library. But 2.4.12 runs without problems and 2.4.13 not. There should be a change between versions. I try by myself though I am not a programmer.

> First, to John Ralls, this is not an issue of X11

Then why in your report did you say:

> But if I open the list of opened windows in X11 menus,

> I am using the distribution prepared by GnuCash for Mac OS X.

OK. Then it's a duplicate of bug 698334.

Geert is right. He didn't say an OS X library, he said "somewhere in the dependency libraries that get shipped on OS X". In this case it's a change in
libgtk+-2.24 that affects the window-menu-management code in libgtkmacintegration-2.0.

Sorry, I make a mistake in relation to X11 menu. Probably because I ran GnuCash in X11 for a long-time. Thanks for your remarks.
Comment 6 John Ralls 2017-09-24 22:47:26 UTC
Reassign version to 2.4.x so that individual 2.4 versions can be retired.
