GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 700367
Initial playback volume set at maximum & is not persisted
Last modified: 2013-05-15 22:16:20 UTC
Created attachment 244280 [details] Banshee log file I am running Banshee 2.6.1 under Fedora 18 (3.8.11-200 kernel). I usually use either WindowMaker or KDE (4.10.2) as my desktop and have installed all the required GTK modules to run Banshee and other applications. When I launch Banshee and play the first MP3 the volume is set to maximum which is of course way too loud. If I reduce the volume in Banshee before playing the first MP3 it resets the volume to maximum. Thus I have to play an MP3 with a low initial volume or an MP3 with no sound for a few seconds so that I have time to adjust the volume down before it blasts my speakers. Under my setup Gstreamer is my primary backend (via Phonon/KDE). It appears that Banshee's volume control fights against my KDE volume control. Although my volume level in KDE is persistent across sessions, Banshee's volume control is not persisted. So each and every time I re-launch Banshee I have to reset its volume to a lower level. Perhaps if I were running Gnome the settings would persist. It would make sense to save the settings under .config/ and include the volume settings there to address this issue. I have included my Banshee log.
