GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 699758
screen unblank on multimonitor setup
Last modified: 2021-07-05 14:34:44 UTC
We currently wake up and lift the curtain on all displays. This isn't particularly useful as all but one monitor actually includes useful information. We should be waking up only the primary display to show the time, music controls or notifications. Lifting the curtain also should happen on the primary display and only after the successful authentication, and current transition to the running session on the primary display should the remaining displays wake up and transition from black to the session. This is closely related to bug #682429.
We don't really have a way to wake up only certain displays. If I'm in a multi-screen setup, I would certainly expect all the screens to wake up when the primary screen does.

GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
