1. launch gedit
2. resize gedit window 
3. click file menu -> move focus to file menu

I can confirm this on Arch Linux with gEdit 3.8.1.

This is probably another duplicate of bug 696882, an outstanding GTK issue which is affecting a lot of applications right now.

After updating gnome 3.8.2 ( gtk3 3.8.2), this issue is fixed.
