GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 698891
avahi + samba 4.x + 'browse netwok' = double icons for share
Last modified: 2013-11-21 18:22:37 UTC
For some strange reason, the Samba shares in my machine shows up twice on Nautilus' 'Browse Network'. See screenshot attached. Packages: samba 4.0.5 nautilus 3.8.1 avahi 0.6.31 Steps to reproduce: - configure a Samba share in your workgroup, like the [tmp] example, and start it. - open 'Browse Network' in Nautilus, making sure avahi is running.
No screenshot attached is attached.

My bad. Anyway I'm using a DNS server in one of my LAN's machines. When I click on one icon the titlebar says 'Windows shares on <machine name>', and if I click on the other the titlebar says 'Windows shares on <machine ip address>'.
Anyway I turned my DNS server off in NetworkManager and the icons were still duplicated.

I forced my other machine - which runs Samba 3.x - to be the local master and I got the normal (non-duplicated icons) view of Browse Network on Nautilus.
No, it was only for a brief moment. I quit and logged in again and Nautilus is still showing duplicate icons for Samba shares.

Bug 535514 is for a very old Nautilus version.

Listen I don't know where to seek help, since It's been 6 months I've reported this bug and so far no response what-so-ever. I don't know if it's a nautilus, gvfs-smb, gnome-user-share or even an avahi issue, so I'm seeking help from all directions. It still an issue on Arch Linux with gnome 3.10.
