GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 698673
Long 'MIME-type' strings renders 'Name' column unusable
Last modified: 2013-07-08 15:34:50 UTC
Created attachment 242253 [details] Screenshot of bug I use the MIME-type column in list view in nautilus. However, when I encounter a file with a long MIME-type description, I cannot see the contents of the Name column. The consequence is that I have to adjust the width of the Name column every time I open a folder which contain for example a file of the "application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document" type (*.docx files). Steps to re-produce: -> Open Nautilus' g-menu and press 'Preferences'. -> Go to the 'List Columns' Tab. -> Check 'MIME-Type' and move it up next to 'Name'. -> Open a directory which contain a file with a long MIME-type name. (For example, save a test *.docx document with Libreoffice Writer). The results should very likely look like the screenshot attached to this report.
Same problem here with Nautilus 3.8.2 on Fedora 19. This bug also affects all other columns, e.g. the owner, group and location column. This will render nautilus unusable if e.g. the owner description read from /etc/passwd might be "Account used by the trousers package to sandbox the tcsd daemon" for user tss or "Clamav database update user" for user clamupdate.
Pretty sure this is a dup. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 693459 ***
