Description Moltres_rider 2013-04-06 12:52:21 UTC
I think there needs to be support for using multiple fonts and multiple text sizes within the same text dialog (same layer) (same text editor)... it is tedious work having to do multiple text layers for different fonts and sizes and trying to position them exactly perfect to make it look like the same sentence with different fonts and sizes... it would be a GREAT feature to highlight a specific word in your text tool and change the font and/or size ONLY for that word and leave the rest of the text as is!
Comment 1 Mike Henning (drawoc) 2013-04-06 14:33:54 UTC
This feature is already available in gimp 2.8, and works almost exactly as you described it. Search for tutorials online.
Comment 2 Moltres_rider 2013-04-06 14:54:15 UTC
DOES NOT allow me to do this in 2.8!!!
Comment 3 Moltres_rider 2013-04-06 14:55:45 UTC
when some text is highlighted, ALL text changes!!! SO NO, it is NOT in Gimp 2.8!!!
Comment 4 Téo Mazars 2013-04-06 15:50:52 UTC
Confirming the bug for fonts only. The behaviour with sizes is correct here though. There is also problems with focus (already reported somewhere else)

Thanks for reporting this.

Screenshot of the gimp editing text with multiple fonts at once.

On my system I can change both font size and typeface within a single textbox. Here's a screenshot.

Now that I play with it more, it does behave rather oddly. Everything works fine if you only use the on canvas dialog. If you use the tool options or the editor, things get rather weird. (ex. from the tool options, changing font size works, but changing typeface does not)

So there are bugs here, but everything *should* work if you only use the on canvas text editor.

What platform and exact gimp version do you have? I think there were some fixes to the text tool between gimp 2.8.2 and 2.8.4.
Comment 6 Téo Mazars 2013-04-06 17:22:17 UTC
Mike, your right, sorry :

The current behaviour is : the on-canvas tools works fine on part of texts, the "tool options" works on the whole current text, highlighted or not.

So it's mostly ok, just the on-canvas editor should expose a more discoverable font-selector, since you don't always know the font name...

2.8.4 as it is reported in this bug...
Comment 8 Moltres_rider 2013-04-06 17:47:00 UTC
well I ALWAYS use the editor as it is easier to read the text with large images...

STILL ALL TEXT CHANGES when using the canvas! this BUG applies to ALL ways of the text!!! I suspect that the attachment was shopped somehow because ALL problems reported in this bug STILL exist EVEN when changing them on the canvas!
Comment 11 Michael Schumacher 2013-04-06 22:09:25 UTC
Works fine for me.

The remaining problems are described in bug 631934. I'd appreciate if read that bug fully and experimented a bit until you got a grasp of the current behavior of the on-canvas text editing. Right now, this doesn't seem to be the case.
Comment 12 Michael Natterer 2013-04-10 00:18:24 UTC
Bottom line: multiple styles/fonts are supported, with the tool-options
interaction shorcomings handled in bug 631934.
