GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 697132
Wallpaper scaling options gone since 3.6
Last modified: 2013-04-02 22:00:56 UTC
Hey guys, i'd guess that you are already aware of this but I wanted to express that there are people that like the following feature :) Since controll-center of gnome 3.6, the wallpaper-settings do not allow to adjust the wallpaper scaling method. The old controll-center wallpaper-settings component could do that. Currently, there is only one way to change the scaling behavior, by modifying the key "org.gnome.desktop.background picture-options". The possible values are "wallpaper", "centered", "scaled", "stretched", "zoom" and "spanned". The current default is zoom. But in some cases, I have for example wallpapers that need the mode "wallpaper" to look properly. I wonder if you are planning to implement a feature to the background-component where you can set these "picture-options" in 3.8? If not, wouldn't it be better to use the old settings component until the new one has a litte more features (like selecting a folder to look for wallpapers in etc.)? I'd guess that especially new linux users that are maybe *not so convinced* of unity will notice these things fast (first thing on a new desktop: change wallpaper) and may not even consider gnome-shell as an alternative. So long! :)
Re-adding the same options we had before is not an option. Do you have specific use cases? It seems that the inability to tile smaller wallpapers is the problem that bothers you.
Exactly, for *me*, "zoom" and "wallpaper" would be enough. The other options are not so useful in my oppinion. Take this image for example http://fav.me/d5xewmn ;-) There are many of these kinds of wallpaper-tiles. But I dont know if this options is used by other users?
