Description la.jolie 2013-04-01 21:11:39 UTC
on a Debian squeeze 64bits, running Rhythmbax 2.97-2.1

Hello,

Yesterday I installed updates on my system (not sure if it's rellevant as I don't remember what what was the updates).

Today, everytimes a sound comes from another software (a mail coming, a notification from pidgin, ..), the sound in rhythmbox goes up (quite loudly) for the same amount of time the other sound last then come back to the normal.

With other player (such vlc), I don't have that problem.

I check the backtrace, but nothing appears when I have this problem.

I attached the backtrace. During this backtrace, I generate several times a sound from another software.

Rhythmbox has no way of knowing that any other process is playing sound. I'm not sure what information you're trying to provide in that backtrace, but there isn't any there.
Comment 3 la.jolie 2013-04-01 21:43:26 UTC
I beleive you, but the fact still remains..
Every time a sound comes some other soft, I have that problem.

And it happens only with Rhythmbox.

How can I think it's not Rhythmbox related?

For the backtrace, indeed, nothing happens when the problem occurs.

Can I do something else to try to find where that problem comes from?
Comment 4 la.jolie 2013-04-01 22:23:17 UTC
I found what updates were installed yesterday.
Maybe you'll see something that can be related.

(sorry, the list is long. As gnome 3 devs decide to not show anymore when updates are available, I must take new habits I still don't have and waited too long before checking. I removed some though, like iceweasel, cups, mysql,.. that I'm sure aren't related)

No rhythmbox update, but gstreamer yes? Can that be the cause?

Comment 5 la.jolie 2013-04-02 04:11:47 UTC
Rhythmbox is playing music.
Then, when I open vlc, as soon as I push play, the volume in rhythmbox goes up until I click stop in Vlc

I also tested with clementine and the same happens except that I have to wait few seconds after having pushed the stop button before my volume comes back to normal.
(with clementine, no problem with the volume)

Also, the problem seems to come from the general volume.
If Rhythmbox volume is high and general volume low, the sound increases a bit.
If general volume is high and Rhythmbox volume low, the sound increases a lot.

This problem drives me crazy :'(
