GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 696898
Adding a "primary monitor" checkbox to the display settings app
Last modified: 2013-03-31 22:08:24 UTC
Hello, When using a multi-monitor setup, there are no way to specify the primary monitor in the display settings GUI. After searching on the net, I read that we had to change that value in ~/.config/monitors.xml Because it is a basic and important feature for a multi-monitor setup, it should be available in the display settings app. Best regards, Nicolas ps : - searching on the net will show you how much people are trying to do it. - other desktops/OS propose that feature (Windows, MacOS, KDE) - propriatary drivers also propose that feature from their own settings GUI
After creating this feature request, I saw that there is indeed a way to do it by draggin the black tag to any monitor that will become the primary one : http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/35149/linux-mint-gnome-shell-with-dual-monitor-switch-main-screen Honnestly, except if we know it, it is absolutely not intuitive (which is one goal of gnome-shell) nor clear at all (as said in that stackexchange thread). The checkbox seems to me the most clear option.
