Description Pacho Ramos 2013-03-29 17:49:24 UTC
In gnome-shell-3.8 I find really really hard to open notifications tray. I can only open it pressing super+M.

Release notes states the following:
"For GNOME 3.8 this action has been updated to react to the force with which the pointer is pressed against the screen edge. Only a determined push will cause the Message Tray to open. This enhancement avoids accidental triggers and is quicker and more immediate."

But I completely miss how to "push" to get it opened :S

Any suggestions? Maybe this should be more easily discoverable or release notes should state more clearly how to push to get it opened.

Thanks

Thanks a lot!

Now that I know what to do, looks much easier. The problem is that, when you don't know it, it's not so easy :S

For example, I have tried the following:
1. When a new notification is shown, a warning is shown and, then, I can click on "you have a new message" text to get notifications displayed. In this situation you can also drag activities overview and move it to top to see notifications.

2. Once I learned this, I couldn't understand why I couldn't to the same always, and I needed to wait for a new notification to appear to be able to see other notifications :S

Why isn't a clickable text or icon in the button always shown to allow people to click on it (or leave mouse over it) to show the tray?

Also, why notifications tray is not always shown in activities overview?

To leave more space for the window selector which allows us to have bigger thumbnails (which are easier to identify as a result).

Well, maybe if notifications tray could be a bit smaller (I attach a screenshot showing how big it's currently).

The main advantage of having it always shown with the rest activities is that I can easily switch, for example, to open pidgin of deluge windows

Note that the tray used to be smaller and visible in the overview; those changes were deliberate in 3.6 and 3.8 respectively.

We have a new notifications design [1], which doesn't use pressure sensitivity. Closing as obsolete.
