Description Marco Scannadinari 2013-03-26 07:50:20 UTC
Not having a password makes changing sessions impossible, because the session chooser is integrated into the password prompt - so when a user clicks on his / her account, gdm goes straight to GNOME, even if another session was installed.
Comment 1 Marco Scannadinari 2013-03-26 07:53:47 UTC
To reproduce:
    1. Set your user account to have no password

    2. Install another DE:
        # yum install e16

    3. Restart GNOME to get log out option
        [Alt + F2] + r

    4. Log out

    5. Click on your user account

    6. Observe lack of session chooser

Still present in 3.8...
Comment 3 Ray Strode [halfline] 2013-06-25 11:45:13 UTC
I think there's a few dupes of this floating around, but we should have a button or something set to a short timeout, in the no prompt case.

Mock

I made a gdm mockup as to how this problem can be solved. Mainly it involves repositioning the session drop down seperately from the password entry, as it is a global setting and will allow the user to choose a session as well if (s)he is not password-equipped. svg source atatched seperately
