GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 696322
screenShield: Remove blur and desaturation from lock screen
Last modified: 2013-03-22 16:37:16 UTC
There's large performance issues with both the blur and desaturation that make the screen shield hard to use on slower computers, and this has always been a temporary stopgap until the user can pick a different image for the lock screen.

+1 from me; a bright and shiny shield is better than a jumpy and laggy shield.
And, to comment on that, this does not just affect 'slower' computers'. My x220 is very noticeably affected
