GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 696295
Add/remove extensions from extensions.gnome.org works only once, sometimes breaks browser
Last modified: 2021-07-05 14:16:52 UTC
I used Gnome-3.8 test image (Fedora Gnome Testday) in qemu (boxes), and tried to test gnome-shell extensions from extensions.gnome.org, when I try to add extensions it works, but only for the first time/one extension, same for removing them, from the extension page (for example 'Places status indicator' page) or from page where all installed extensions are listed. Sometimes it looks like it breaks the browser functionality, I'm not able to refresh the page, or open a new page in freshly opened tab, but not always.
Minor update, I forgot to mention that extensions add/remove feature works fine in Firefox.
I changed the title to make it clear that you're talking about shell extensions. (Epiphany 3.6 had a browser extension system that was removed.)
Posted a stack trace to bug 709810 for the same problem.
I confirm this for GNOME Web 3.20.3. Firefox works well. Maybe set this to depend on bug 777623? Michael, this is what I meant in bug 766776 saying it "almost" works for me.
(In reply to Yuri Konotopov from comment #4) > I confirm this for GNOME Web 3.20.3. Firefox works well. > Maybe set this to depend on bug 777623? I don't want to do that because it will probably be several years before we have any WebExtensions support. The browser plugin should be fixed in the meantime, and that's a gnome-shell bug.
I retested with latest NPAPI plugin patch [1] and it works for me fine. [1] https://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-shell/commit/browser-plugin?id=d5c0514e21d130c88e2fa032421e486c0b0efa75

Sorry for the noise, I "found" a bug in the migration script: https://gitlab.gnome.org/External/bugzilla-to-gitlab-migrator/issues/2
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version, then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
