While the reflow/relayout of the main view while revealing the detailed weather report is decent, I imagined a much more fluent transition and actually sliding the main view away in a similar way that the message tray is revealed, pushing the content away. I'm guessing not doing the relayout would have a positive performance impact.

I'm marking this duplicate of the other bug which deals with the sidebar behavior.
The patch there does not implement the proposed behavior, simply because obtaining that with Gtk is quite hard, but it still solves the performance issue.
