Typing numbers into the rotation angle does not work. Neither does selecting landscape for a new image.

Works fine here. Can you elaborate a bit more and describe the steps you take?

sure. I open up a new canvas  I draw on the canvas. Select an area and chose rotation tool. if i move the slider it rotates but changing the numbers in the text box does not affect the rotation.

Could be bug 677765 - entering values for rotate works the first time, but fails on subsequent uses.
