GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 695461
Apply Incoming message filter to specific folder
Last modified: 2015-04-15 18:57:21 UTC
It would be helpful to be able to apply a filter/Rule to incoming messages only on a specific folder. One scenario where this is helpful is when using an exchange account. There may be exchange server-side rules to move certain messages to a folder. Evolution receives them directly into that folder without it needing any Evolution filter. There is then no way to run different rules on those messages as Evolution rules are run on every folder. The work-around is to duplicate the server-side rule which is a lot of trouble and risks rules getting out of sync Having the following option would be nice, Apply to: <Dropdown of folders> * With the default to Inbox which would apply to all messages
Thanks for a bug report. I'm not sure what you meant with "Apply to <folder>". The 3.6.x, same as previous versions, offer "Source Account is <account>" condition, which can limit filter for certain accounts only. Your proposal sounds like add a "Location is <folder>" condition, but that might not be enough, because, as you mentioned, the filters are applied only to Inbox folders. The IMAP (not IMAP+) provider can have set filtering on any folder, which can be found in folder Properties (right click in folder tree), but 3.8 will have the IMAP gone, and this functionality wasn't added to IMAP+, neither to exchange connectors (do you use EWS or MAPI). In other words, it also depends on providers, whether they support it or not. I suggest the "Location", because it's already available for Search Folders.
I'm using MAPI so "Location is <folder>" is exactly what I would need. I didn't realize that might not work for all IMAP cases. The Search Folders ability to select a location/source is great. That as-is or a pulldown list like the "Source Account" filer has would work.
