GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 693944
Missed safely remove option, eject does not remove power
Last modified: 2014-01-18 12:38:29 UTC
In Gnome disk utility 3.0.2 (Ubuntu 12.04, 3.0.2-2ubuntu7) there was Safely remove option for any drive. In Gnome disks 3.6.1 (Ubuntu 12.10, 3.6.1-0ubuntu1) it is missed. Please bring it back. Removing powered device from USB port is unsafe operation. It is not sufficient to unmount/eject drive, it must be completely powered off before removal. This bug exists in Fedora 18, OpenSuSe 12.2, Ubuntu 12.10 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/1127127).
Moreover Disks does not spin down (stop) my external USB-SATA Tsunami HDD. It's the most DANGEROUS for my (and anybody's) data.
This feature will be back in 3.8, see http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-disk-utility/commit/?id=767510d06ec844e330a5ac3a8057394735e3d39f http://people.freedesktop.org/~david/disks-power-off-button.png *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 675542 ***
This bug exists in "gnome-disk-utility 3.8.2 UDisks 2.1.0 (built against 2.1.0)" Ubuntu 13.10 - it does not spin-down my USB-HDD (Seagate ST9750420A in USB Tsunami e-data 2500 enclosure), but "udisks --detach /dev/sdb" did.
This bug exists in gnome-disk-utility 3.10.0 UDisks 2.1.1 (built against 2.1.1) in Arch - it does not spin-down my USB-HDD (Seagate ST9750420A in USB Tsunami e-data 2500 enclosure), but "udisks --detach /dev/sdb" did. Please fix this bug.
