Description Nrbrtx 2013-02-16 10:17:51 UTC
In gnome-disks Ubuntu 12.10 has 3.6.1-0ubuntu1 version.
In 'Benchmark drive...' window Disks has 'Also perform write-benchmark' checkbox checked by default.
It is not safe!
Please unmark it and warn user that operation is DANGEROUS (like in 3.0.2-2ubuntu7 (Ubuntu 12.04).

In Ubuntu we have a bug report for this (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-disk-utility/+bug/1058736).

FWIW, it is wrong to say "It is not safe!" especially if you are not offering an explanation for that point of view. Also, FYI, in 3.8 we default to only checking the box if the device is not in use see

 http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-disk-utility/commit/?id=dbf23244358db32e3fef15a05d3308b79c856042

and bug 689088.
