GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 693726
Unimplemented annotation: POPPLER_ANNOT_SQUARE
Last modified: 2013-02-15 08:09:33 UTC
The attached document has a Square Circle Annotation generated by pdfbox over the words Bravo and Charlie. The link annotation on these doesn't do anything. The Square Circle annotation can be viewed by Acrobat Reader 9 on linux but not on evince which gives the following warning: ** (evince:3369): WARNING **: Unimplemented annotation: POPPLER_ANNOT_SQUARE, please post a bug report in Evince bugzilla (http://bugzilla.gnome.org) with a testcase.

Luis, The link annotation is doing things, it is just that the action is to go to page 1 in both... so if you are in page 1, you don't see any action
It seems to me there is a confusion. The outline has actions that goes to different pages, but the links in the annotation do not. In Acrobat Reader 9 (Linux), it does not go anywhere when I click on the squares. IMHO, this has nothing to do with the POPPLER_ANNOT_SQUARE (links and squares are different annotations). It just a coincidence. Btw, for POPPLER_ANNOT_SQUARE we already have a report in: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=642183
I'm sorry to have introduced confusion in the bug report with the links. What I'm trying to achieve (and which displays correctly in Reader) is to place a pink overlay over the links in the mockups. I finally settled for drawing a pink rectangle over the link since at least this works in evince, Mac OS Preview, and Chrome pdf viewer. I can't be sure that this is a duplicate of https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=642183 because I don't see the square circle annotations in the test case there. At least the annotations that are there look fine in both evince and Reader.
Luis, no worries about the confusion. Thanks for using evince and for filing bugs against it. What's the current issue you have? As far as I can see, the links in your test case are broken (they say -1 /Fit, which is not a page), so that part of the bug is invalid. Yes, Square annots are not implemented, but that only means that if the annot has a content, and you click over it, you won't get a popup showing the contents, where in adobe you would, so yes, this is a duplicate in my opinion.
Yes definitely a duplicate. Marking it as such. Thank you everyone for your assistance! *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 642183 ***
