Description Bastián Díaz 2013-02-12 18:48:51 UTC
Description of problem:
The problem lies in the inability of the system to display a visual feedback when operating the video output on multiple monitors.
This function refers to the media keys commonly have laptops and are handled with the "Fn" key. Each hardware company includes its own solution to show an OSD indicating the corresponding function, but I think it important to include the video output function. Currently the only way to manage this function (through hardware keys) is by trial and error (with time I learned the order).

The idea is to include the following feedback (via OSD)

→ dual monitor
→ mirroring monitor
→ Only external monitor
→ Only Main Monitor

Version-Release number of selected component:
Fedora 18 x86
Gnome 3.6.2

How reproducible:
Connecting an external monitor
Manage video output control through hardware button

Actual results:
When making changes through the hardware button (each key is a change order video output), the only visual feedback are immediate consequences of the action.

Expected results:
Pressing the hardware, is an OSD (such as volume or brightness) that indicates the video output option.
Each press shows a single option to repeat the cycle
Once Choose the option and release the harwdware, the action will take place (to avoid confusion or unnecessary light show)

Additional info:
The proposed function is similar in concept to the one presented from Windows 7 with the "Super+P", except that the options are presented one by one and not ocmo a grid (keeping in line with the other OSD's already present)

thanks
