GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 693510
Classic theme doesn't have enough contrast
Last modified: 2017-11-24 17:19:49 UTC
Created attachment 235611 [details] low-contrast-top-bar.png There isn't enough contrast in the GNOME Shell theme used in the new GNOME Classic mode, which makes it less accessible than the regular Shell theme. The worst examples are: * The current connected WiFi point (text and icon) * The battery charge level (screenshot attached) * The volume slider heading * The user name inside the user menu (it's bold large text but low contrast) * Parts of the clock menu It looks like the regular Shell theme uses the same white color for sensitive and insensitive text in most of the above cases. Also, it feels to me like there isn't enough contrast with the text on the top (and bottom) bar, except when hovering over the text. In the regular theme I believe the background color is solid black so I think the off-white works, but in the classic theme it's dark gray on light gray. I think we should try a darker gray.
Both normal and classic themes have been rewritten completely this cycle, so is this still and issue? We also support high-contrast variants these days, for cases where we need to divert from regular styles for accessibility reasons.
