GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 693115
Loss of files during cut and past operation using nautilus
Last modified: 2021-06-18 15:29:47 UTC
Using nautilus there is the possibility of files loss during a cut and past operation in which the destiny is for example an external drive that gets accidentally disconnected during operation, nautilus erases the files from the source when they are still not yet fully written to the destiny and provides no method to recover in the event of a problem like restoring the files from the trash. Tested on 3.4.2 but should be applicable to the most recent versions if the logic is unchanged.
I was able to reproduce this neither on version 3.12.2 nor on git master.
GNOME is going to shut down bugzilla.gnome.org in favor of gitlab.gnome.org. As part of that, we are mass-closing older open tickets in bugzilla.gnome.org which have not seen updates for a longer time (resources are unfortunately quite limited so not every ticket can get handled). If you can still reproduce the situation described in this ticket in a recent and supported software version of Files (nautilus), then please follow https://wiki.gnome.org/GettingInTouch/BugReportingGuidelines and create a new ticket at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/-/issues/ Thank you for your understanding and your help.
