Pavol: What is unclear with this term?
Comment 2 Pavol Klačanský 2013-02-04 16:25:48 UTC
this
"When marking strings for translations, there may be certain strings that are used in more than one context, and so may need different translations. In these cases, you should use translation contexts to disambiguate them. "
Comment 3 André Klapper 2013-02-04 17:40:20 UTC
No, we should not add translation contexts only because a rather clear term is used more than once. If the term is not clear in your language, please explain the different interpretations or meanings.

Form depends where is the word used. And next time, please, be more friendly ;).
Comment 6 André Klapper 2013-02-04 18:49:32 UTC
I am aware of grammar, even a bit of Slovak grammar. :) Still there is no single indication yet that the words ARE actually used in a declension. That's why it feels like a very theoretical, potentially non-existing bug so far.

If you could simply MENTION that there clearly are issues it would be very helpful, or link to https://live.gnome.org/TranslationProject/DevGuidelines/Never%20split%20sentences because this is rather a case of split sentences.

After looking at the code myself I can confirm that there's a problem:

<property name="label" translatable="yes">Disable screensaver when playing </property>
<property name="label" translatable="yes">Video</property>
<property name="label" translatable="yes">Video or Audio</property>

For future reference, adding such info is helpful to make the specific problem clear, plus why there IS a problem.
Comment 7 Pavol Klačanský 2013-02-04 20:03:42 UTC
Thanks :), I should elaborate problem more, my mistake

Sometimes you got something like

Name: Unknown
Location: Unknown

Which causes a lot trouble and translating it as one sentence does not make sense.

And you cannot expect translators reading dev guidelines (I appreciate your help). For example I translate GNOME just because of ubuntu, so I am not interested in project at all, even filing bug is quite cumbersome in here ;).

Have a nice day and thanks for help ;)

commit 3aff9cd2f4c2d800b62ce60309e619b1281eaba3

main: Add translation context to an unclear usage

"Video" in the preferences dialogue is used as part of a sentence,
rather than stand-alone. Make this clearer by adding comments
for the translators, and a translation context.
