Description Emmanuel Touzery 2013-01-29 19:14:09 UTC
there seems to be some race condition with the login in 3.6. I had the same setup in 3.4 and I did not notice this problem.

I am using fedora 18.

I have autologin setup so my user is automatically logged in on the computer. I also use gnome online accounts. To get the access to online accounts, gnome needs access to my gnome keyring, but because of the autologin it by default would ask me for the password at every login.

for that reason i have set up in seahorse that my login keyring is unlocked (set a blank password for my keyring and now in seahorse next the "Login" section under "Passwords" on the left an unlocked lock is draw, it's not locked), so my passwords are accessible without needing to unlock the login keyring.

that solves the problem, however now in gnome 3.6 from time to time (maybe every 10 boot) i have a dialog box after boot "Please enter your password to unlock your login keyring".

I think it's some sort of race condition that sometimes something is not properly initialized yet and the online accounts code tries to get my password while the login keyring code or the gnome system in general did not realize yet that my login keyring is unlocked and readable without password.

I have just rebooted my computer nine times in a row.

And the keyring popup problem occured 7 times out of 9.

So it turns out I was way off with "1 out of 10 times" idea. In fact the problem seems to be occuring most of the time (but I boot my computer more or less once a day so I don't keep track).

one more thing, sometimes this gnome popup that the keyring is locked is themed in the gnome3 style (blackground, centered on screen), sometimes it's just like a gnome2 window (not center, grayish background).

The GTK dialog must be an occurrence of bug 693145.

There's a bunch of discussion about this on bug #693145, including someone researching how to solve it. Redirecting discussion there.
