The background tab was removed from the profile editor during the gsettings conversion without comment:

http://git.gnome.org/browse/gnome-terminal/commit/src/profile-preferences.glade?id=2bff4b63

Can I assume this regression was unintentional?
Comment 1 Christian Persch 2013-01-27 11:55:03 UTC
No, it was intentional.

Ok, I don't care about the background image option, and the solid color background option is available on the colors tab, but as far as I can tell there is now no user-accessible way to set or customize a "transparent" (translucent) background. Translucent backgrounds for terminals are a somewhat popular feature (Ubuntu enables it by default actually although they skipped a release or two).

Can I re-purpose this bug to an enhancement bug asking for that feature to be added to the profile editor (or at least to gsettings)?

It should be at least as easy to enable as your workaround for "default-show-menubar" mentioned on https://live.gnome.org/Terminal/FAQ

I actually use transparent background regularly for practical reasons -- it's really handy to be able to read through the current terminal to a terminal behind when managing data that's related between 2 systems. It would be a shame if that feature is going away.
