GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 692017
Allow Win(Super) key to be set for switching keyboard layouts
Last modified: 2013-04-02 23:00:29 UTC
It was possible in 3.4 but there is no way to do it now even with gnome-tweak-tool/dconf-editor.
The Super key is not really free to be used for keyboard shortcuts or for this. It is used pretty extensively by GNOME shell for window-management bindings, and in particular to go to the overview.
Right, the problem with allowing this is that it conflicts with gnome-shell's usage of that key.
Control and Alt keys are used in default bindings as well, but they can be set for switching layouts. If someone needs this particular go-to-the-overview shortcut he can remap it to something else. In fact, right now I've disabled gsd keyboard plugin and use setxkbmap, so I have to remap all of super+* shortcuts, but I still think it is better than using some other key for layout switching.
even if you disable the keyboard plugin, the shell will still use Super for going to the overview.
This will actually become possible when something like bug 697002 lands. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 697002 ***
