Description Tomáš Hnyk 2013-01-12 12:32:42 UTC
This does not concern only user accounts, but also (at least) Bluetooth, keyboard layout, network.

There are small plus and minus sings in the left bottom corner. (like this: http://afaikblog.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/network-small.png?w=640&h=448 ) They are meant to add and remove entries. However, the minus sign is the only way to remove entries. Whenever I try to interact with this type of a dialog and remove something, I first press delete and get no response (is that intentional? why?). Then I try to rightclick to reveal a menu. Nothing happens.

Please, add at least a delete keybinding to the minus sign action. I do not see any reason why it is not there. As for right click menu, I would welcome it, but I understand (well I don't, but that is a different story) you do not like them.

I'm a little concerned that making the delete key work in these situations would make it too easy to remove something. One slip of the finger and you could end up doing something destructive. Also, since deleting a user isn't a common or frequent action, I'm not sure that the added convenience of the delete key is worth it.

As for context menus, I don't have anything against them per se. The main reason not to use one is that there simply aren't enough items to have one - a menu with only one item in it is a bit silly.

Sorry, but by the same reasoning, you should remove the minus sign as it is next to the plus sign and a little slip of the hand on the mouse might do something destructive as well.

As for a convinience, it is not done often, but these are exactly the small things that make me frustrated when using GNOME. I expect things like this generally work and when they do not I am frustrated and the experience just dost not seem finish. I think something along the lines "oh, maybe they rushed to release and did not have time to implement it and using a halfbaked product sucks".

Seriously, I know keyboard layout differ but delete is generally far off and one usually interacts with the interface with a mouse/touchpad (as keyboard is not that useful also because of this bug, even if it is getting better). And if someone is using the keyboard, they are probably a little bit more power user so they can figure out what happened (and it is no superhard to add the stuff back). Have you ever seen a user (or have you yourself) press a delete like that?

Also, this makes using the panel with keyboard impossible for the task of deleting something. Or is there another way to do it with a keyboard?

As for the context menu, I understand, but I must say it was actually osmething that I though of before spotting the minus sign (which is small. And next to a plus sign. I cannot imagine using that with my fingers (is not that a design goal?). Specially bad is keyboard section as that has five such small icons next to each other. But I am maybe just ranting - even though I really mean what I am saying, because I do not understand why those icons are in that way at all - so sorry about that.))
