GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 691116
Windows hard to distinguish in overview
Last modified: 2013-01-04 10:17:14 UTC
Hi, I am currently preparing my job applications, so I am working with a lot of open windows that show some text on a white background; e.g. a draft in LO-Writer, the LaTeX source in Gedit, the resulting PDF in evince, a file manager, a terminal windows and a web page showing the job offer. All of these windows are hard to distinguish in overview mode. To make things worse, the documents I am working on naturally have rather similar names, e.g. bewerbung (which means "job application") or anschreiben (which roughly translates to "letter"). I think it would make it easier to distunguish all these white-with-some-text windows, if the corresponding application icons were somehow displayed along them, e.g. in the upper left corner of the thumbnail. This would also be sonsistent with the way they are represented by the Alt-Tab task switcher. - Fabian PS: This is gnome-shell 3.6.2-1 from Debian experimental.

Hey Fabian, thanks for the bug report. I totally agree that this is an issue, and we have a few bugs that are tracking potential solutions. There has also done some work to make the thumbnails much larger; this definitely helps. Since this is a somewhat general problem, and since we already have bugs covering it, I don't think we need to keep this report open. You can follow the app icon issue in bug 634599. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 634599 ***
